Dad's Scarf

Here is a scarf I knitted for my Dad for Christmas. Frisco was net very thrilled with being my model. I used Caron Simply Soft Tweed. It is so soft! All the patterns I had for scarves were very femanine, so I came up with a patter. It's basically a modification of the Basket Weave patter, so that the blocks resemble bricks. Unfortunately, due to the color of the scarf I can't get the pattern to really show that well in pictures. If I can get a better picture later I will replace :)

Well, I am finally getting around to posting a few of my finished holiday gift scarves. The 3 pictured below were all crocheted. My favorite out of the three is the purplie-pink one :) It's a stitch that I've never tried before and I really love the way it came out.

My first attempt at knitting...

I was taught to knit when I was a little girl by my nonna, but that didn't work out too well :) So here I am about 20 some odd years later, trying again :) Doing the simple basic stitches, I found it was pretty easy. Not as easy as I find crocheting, but then again I have been crocheting for about 16 years now. Anyway, I was in JoAnn Fabrics on afternoon and I don't know what possessed me, but before I knew what I was doing I had 3 different sets of knitting needles, a stitch counter, a how to book and, of course, a basket FULL of yarn. I know, this has never happened to any of you *wink* Then I went home and got started, and started again, and again, etc.... *giggle* I must have pulled this scarf apart and started over at least 5 times. The last time I did, I was half way through when my cat jumped on my lap and scared the dickens out of me and I dropped a good number of stitches. Being new to knitting I had NO idea how to fix this, so I did the only thing I knew, pull it apart and start over. I did finally finish it though! Here it is!

I still need to block it (something I had no clue about till just a few days ago - tee hee), but not bad for a first attempt. What do you think? Any pointers for future projects?

Well, I have finally jumped in feet first and started a blog! OK, so I'm a little behind the times, but I'm getting there :)

Anywho, I saw that a whole bunch of people have blogs on their knitting or crocheting, so since I do both, among other crafty things, I figured - Why not?!

As the holiday season approaches and I find myself sitting at home working on some gifts when I figured I would give me fingers and wrists a bit of a rest. OK, so maybe not a rest so much as a change of pace *grin* and thought I would share some of my latest creations.

OK, so this isn't a Christmas gift for anyone, I just love how this blanket turned out. This was my first attempt at Tunisian Crochet (otherwise known as the afghan stitch). It took forever! This was one of those projects that when you finished a section you put it down and moved on to something else for a breather :) But I couldn't be more pleased with the results.






Here is the a scarf I knitted for my sister. She came by my house one afternoon while she was out shopping and handed me 2 skeins of this yarn and asked me to make her a scarf with it. These skeins were only 37 yards each! So of course my smart response was do you wnat it super skinny or super short?? *laugh* So 2 more skeins were purchased and here are the results. She loves it, so I'm glad. But I told her she was never aloud to purchase yarn without consulting me first! Especially if she wants ME to be the person making something with it *giggle*


OK, time for me to catch some snoozes. I guess I will get to posting the actual Christmas gifts another time :)
