And CONGRATS ZIA!!!
Baby knits:
I enjoyed knitting the baby bell bottoms pattern from Alison at the blue blog, and EZ's baby surprise sweater. I really want to knit this baby knit next: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sheep-yoke-baby-cardigan
AND I love all the adorable toy patterns from Hansi Singh. (Etsy) Sorry if I overloaded you!

Congrats! I love using Zia instead of Aunt. So fun! I vote for the elephant from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. Hmm, what yarn. I always use acrylic or cotton for baby toy gifts, so maybe some good old grey acrylic or Mission Falls 1824 cotton in grey.

Congratulations! My favorite baby knit is the Simple Boatneck Sweater from Debbie Bliss's Baby Knits for Beginners. It's a simple yet elegant design--no frills, but oh-so-cute on a baby. And, when knit up in Baby Cashmerino, just luscious!

Every baby has to have the Heartbreakingly Cute Baby Kimono and a bunch of Baby bibs and Baby Genius Burp Cloths from Mason Dixon Knitting in Handknit Cotton by Rowan Yarns! I'm linking your contest on my blog.

I knit a felted bear for my new nephew and he loves it. You can find pics of the bear and the nephew loving it on my Ravelry page - SheThinksSheCan.

Also recently I found out I was pregnant (#1!) and have a couple bibs Grandmas favorite bib and CatKnitz's Button Knot Bib.

And the Baby Surprise Jacket. So much to knit! Congratulations!

So much to chose from...of course, since it is a winter baby, this baby will need a blanket. I love making feather and fan blankets cuase the pattern is so easy to make - and it makes any yarn look sumptious.
And the top down sweaters from Cabin Fever are wonderful...any of the new kimono sweater patterns...and there is all that lovely Panda yarn from Crystal Palace..

Oooo how exciting for you!!!

I think you should get some pretty painted yarn and make the Baby Surprise Jacket by EZ... I think it's a classic!!

I came here via Jane at Grammieknits... I'll post it on my blog as well.

Congrats!
My usual go-to baby knit is the hooded cardigan (free pattern from Cloverhill) that uses 2 skeins of Encore. Very cute and easy.
My most recent baby knit gifts have been the EZ Baby Surprise Jacket. The striping is so cool and you can mix and match yarns.
Have fun!

I think you should knit Devan from Knitty (http://www.knitty.com/issuespring04/PATTdevan.html).

It's hard to choose a particular yarn because there are so many kinds of self-patterning sock yarn, but I think Opal Pfau might look good.
